EDFI Management Company Organised a Milestone Corporate Day under the name “At the Crossroads”
The EDFI Management Company, a key player in European development finance, held its inaugural Corporate Day, marking a significant milestone in its journey since its establishment in 2016.
Rodrigo Madrazo, CEO of EDFI Management Company, welcomed a diverse audience of European Commission authorities, development finance institutions, portfolio companies, and representatives from multilateral development banks and sovereign wealth funds.
The event, aptly named “At the Crossroads,” reflected the pivotal moment in which the company finds itself:
- The company’s role as an impact-driven financial service provider, uniquely positions itself at the crossroads of European Development Finance Institutions (EDFIs) and the European Union. Madrazo highlighted the company’s growth, now managing nearly €2 billion on behalf of European DFIs and the European Commission.
- The pressing geopolitical and macroeconomic challenges facing the global landscape, emphasize the urgent need to channel capital towards sustainable solutions.
- A key focus of the event was exploring avenues to mobilize additional capital for impact investment in frontier markets and fragile states. Madrazo stressed the importance of leveraging the capacity of like-minded investors to fulfill the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Corporate Day provided a unique opportunity for EU blended finance investees to showcase their achievements. Representatives from 15 different portfolio companies were present, offering attendees the chance to learn about their impact on the ground.
A highlight of the event was the signing and launch of three guarantee programmes backed by the European Fund for Sustainable Development Plus (EFSD+), totaling €726 million. These programmes focus on access to finance, carbon sequestration, and climate change adaptation and mitigation.
Madrazo concluded his welcome speech by expressing gratitude to all involved parties and looking forward to future collaboration on sustainable development.
