Agros secures USD 2 million from EDFI ElectriFI to expand solar-powered irrigation for farmers in Southeast Asia
Brussels / Singapore, 18 December 2025 – EDFI ElectriFI, the EU-funded Electrification Financing Initiative managed by EDFI Management Company (EDFI MC), is providing a USD 2 million working capital facility to Agros Pte. Ltd., a Singapore-based solar irrigation company serving small and medium-holder farmers in Southeast Asia. The financing will support Agros’ expansion in Indonesia and Cambodia and scale its “Pay-after-Harvest” model, enabling farmers to invest in high-quality solar water pump systems with flexible payment terms. It also accelerates the transition toward solar irrigation pumps becoming a bankable asset class, creating a pathway for local financial institutions to scale clean irrigation lending to farmers.
Established in 2019, Agros assembles and distributes solar water pump systems that replace diesel pumps and enable year-round irrigation for farmers in Myanmar, Cambodia and Indonesia. The EDFI ElectriFI facility will fund Agros’ procurement cycle and the highly additional “Pay-after-Harvest” scheme offered to smallholder clients in Indonesia and Cambodia.
Rodrigo Madrazo Garcia de Lomana, CEO of EDFI MC stated “Agros’ model shows how clean energy and smart financing can directly improve smallholders’ resilience and incomes while cutting emissions. Supporting Agros’ growth in Indonesia and Cambodia is closely aligned with our mandate to mobilise private investment for climate action and inclusive economic development in emerging markets.”
Agros’ scale-up is expected to reduce carbon emissions and air pollution by substituting diesel pumps with solar-powered solutions, while lowering farmers’ energy and fuel costs. Improved irrigation is anticipated to support higher crop yields and increase rural incomes in the focus countries.
Max Nelen, CEO of Agros added “Our partnership with ElectriFI is a major step forward in our mission to help farmers grow more with less risk and less pollution. From the moment a farmer decides to switch from diesel to solar, We are committed to be the trusted partner that helps them increase income while shrinking their carbon footprint.”
The investment builds on Agros’ successful pilot in Indonesia, where demand for clean irrigation solutions is expected to be significant.
